5 IDEAS: 5 Closet Accessories

With almost no exceptions, the one room my clients have a continuing battle with is their closet. Is this the case for you, too?

Never fear—help is on the way! Today’s “5 Things” post includes my five favorite closet accessories for straightening out what can often be described as chaos. Adding these will make using your closet less of a battle, and more of a storage success.

An open closet featuring wood shelves and a wooden dresser. Items on the shelves are neatly arranged.

1. Wood Coat Hanger

While they are more expensive than metal hangers and tend to take up more space in your closet, I guarantee your clothes will hang better and look better if you invest in these. I agree it can be a pain to take all your clothes off the wire hangers when they come back from the dry cleaners, but give it a try—you will notice the difference.

I like these ones from Butler Luxury, remember a great structure is built on the best foundation, and these represent that.

2. A Flip-Fold Board

Want your t-shirts and sweaters neatly stacked like they are in your favorite store? Then get this handy item, stat. In a matter of minutes, you will be folding away and creating a tidy, organized closet.

3. Shelf Dividers

Now that you have all your sweaters and shirts folded and neatly put up on the shelf, adding a divider will help keep your new neat stacks just that—neat. I like these acrylic ones, as they are really sturdy and virtually disappear in your closet.

4. Valet Hook

Whether you are putting together an outfit for a night out or bringing in the dry cleaning, a well-placed hook or two will be a much-used addition to any closet, and you might be surprised how convenient it actually is once put in place. I also happen to find this the perfect opportunity to add a bit of your own personal flair. I love these hooks, but feel free to have fun finding one that suits your personality.

5. Folding Luggage Rack

Have you ever had that experience on vacation of arriving to your destination to find you forgot to pack socks? I travel a lot, and for me those oversights happen pretty frequently as I shuttle from my closet to my suitcase laid out on my bed. Having a folding luggage rack that allows you to keep your packing isolated to just the closet cuts down on packing time. More importantly, you will be surprised at how much less you forget! I like this one it’s very sturdy and the metal accents add just a nice touch of design.

Those were my favorite tricks for keeping my closet organized and neat. What are yours? Let me know @MarkCutler—I’m always curious to know more!
