How to improve the lighting in your home.

Have you ever walked into a room that feels mundane and stale? Chances are the lighting within that room contributed to this feeling. Good lighting is essential to have in a successful design. Let’s discuss some bright ideas on ways to improve the lighting within your home.

1. Reflective surfaces

Adding reflective surfaces is a wonderful way to maximize the amount of light within a space. Reflective surfaces help the light to bounce off of each other, brightening the space. Mirrors and vases are just a few examples of items with reflective surfaces that can help enhance the amount of lighting.

2. Clean your windows

Most of us probably have pets and/or kids who leave their nose art and fingerprints over the windows. While pets and children might be adorable, the dirt and grime on your windows is not. You might not realize it, but cleaning your windows can make a world of difference when brightening your space. Cleaning your windows is also a great way to check for window damage and reduce the number of germs in your home.

3. Select the right colors

Lighting and color have a great impact on each other. Therefore, it is important to consider how much light will be in your space and which colors will pair nicely. Darker colors tend to draw in light, creating heat. This is helpful in cooler climates. Direct lighting can also cause colors to fade. By utilizing a color palette with lighter hues, your colors should fade less and reflect more light.

4. Embrace the dimmer

By installing a light fixture on a dimmer, you will not only have better lighting but more control. There is nothing more annoying than watching your favorite TV series and having a large glare on the screen. Utilizing a dimmer can help reduce the glare. Having a dimmer switch can also help conserve energy as you can control how intense the light is within your space. You also never know when you might want to set the mood for a romantic dinner.

5. Replace bulbs and/or fixtures

With our ever-changing ways of technology, it should not be a surprise that certain light fixtures and bulbs function better than others. To achieve better lighting, start by swapping out your light bulbs. Replace any bulbs that have gone out. We recommend LED bulbs as they are the chameleon of light bulbs. They are also more energy-efficient. Light fixtures are another way to enhance the lighting in your home. Notice if your existing light fixtures help the light flood the space or if the light tends to be trapped in the fixture.
