5 IDEAS: 5 Quarantine Home Design Projects

Being at home can be no fun. Between home schooling, laundry and housekeeping it can get to be a lot. During this extended time at home little things that we didn’t notice before can really begin to grate on you so I thought it might be good to have a few Decor projects that are super simple to achieve and can really give you some real achievable goals. Some are going to require some raw materials that you can probably still get on amazon or even your local Target store.

1. Repaint the air vents in your home

Air vents painted in different colors like metallic gold, taupe, gray, black and a neutral gray-green.

This is one that gets ignored all the time and probably just fades into the background, but is actually as simple as a can of spray paint and a little sandpaper to prepare your target. If you are like me your grates are probably white, and while there is nothing wrong with that, maybe it’s time to embrace a bit of color? Some deep neutrals like navy or taupe would be good, or a fun metallic like bronze or even copper could be dramatic. In a kids room, let them choose, remember it’s only paint and a lime green vent might be just the thing the room needs.

Create a Feature Wall

This bedroom is created a round a Feature Wall made of wood planks. The bed is covered with a grey duvet and grey pillows, accented by a deep brown headboard and black side tables.

I know we are all doing a lot of staring at the walls lately so why not make a feature of one of them. There are a lot of ways to go, peel and stick wallpaper is always an excellent choice with classic choices like grass cloth or dramatic ones like a strong pattern, whatever you choose, just know that you can always change it later , what about having a summer and a winter?

Another excellent choice, although it requires a little more handyman skills are peel and stick wood planks. I love a modern rustic style and these easy to apply pieces can transform the style of a room in an instant.

3. Plant a Garden

Three potted flowering plants in alternating colors of pink and blue stand in front of a wood plank wall.

Yes, I agree the title may seem a little daunting but it does not have to be the whole garden! This is a great one to do with the kids, it can be as simple as planting some bulbs in a few spare pots that you have lying around, or even use some of those extra tins we have created. If you go this route, there is a whole other design project there for decorating the container.

Another appropriate idea is a vegetable garden. Try to concentrate fast growing vegetables so you can start to see your labors come to fruition in the next few weeks. Vegetables like radishes, spinach and peas are all quick growers that are good choices.

4. Paint a Ceiling a Color

One of the things that always discourages me from a lot of my grand painting schemes is the idea of moving all the furniture out of the way etc and the general disruption this causes. That is why the Ceiling is the perfect target. I happen to also LOVE a painted ceiling, it can totally remake the light in the room and transform a dull lifeless space into one that feels lively and dynamic. The color is really up to you, some of my favorites are dusty pink, a soft golden yellow or a misty grey purple, but experiment and see what works for you.

5. Add Storage to your Entry

An entry way featuring tall plants, a console table with vases on the bottom shelf and a lamp and painting on the top and a mirror.

I agree there is probably not a lot of coming and going in your home at the moment, so doesn’t that make it the perfect time to rethink the way your entry works. I always like to have as much storage in a variety of different ways that I can in the space. So this means a tray for keys, wallet etc, some hooks for coats, bags etc and some baskets under my console to catch all the various miscellaneous stuff that gathers there.  One thing that every entry should have is a trash can, that way all that extra junk mail etc doesn’t make it past the front door and clutter up the rest of your house.

So these are five ideas of projects that you can try while in quarantine, but feel free to look around and pay attention to things that you might otherwise have glossed over and see what little things need attention. Remember a few little details can make a huge difference.
