Master Class: Make Your Home Perfect - Using Amazon

Being stuck at home can be no fun at all, and it’s the small things that start to grate on you after a while. “I never realized that my towels had gotten so scratchy” or now that the whole family is in the house all the time, it doesn’t smell as fresh and homey as I would like.

As Interior designers we totally understand that it’s the details that make your home special, the small things that you touch, and smell, so for this weeks MasterClass on Interior Design I thought that I would share some of my favorite finds from Amazon, that can add that little touch of luxury back in to your home, and can be delivered right to your door.

You’re welcome!

Bath Towels

A folded white bath sheet.

There are very few things in life as comforting as a soft, luxurious bath sheet, whether you found time for a long soak in the hot bath or a quick shower before the kids tear the house apart, these turkish cotton towels are super absorbent, soft and one of my go to favorite things.

The thing that you want to look for is the weight, and at 625 grams/square meter these towels really pack it in. As you probably know, white is my go to color, but they are available in a broad range of colors, so treat yourself.

Candles

An assortment of colored boxes and candles from Homesick Candles.

One of the worst things for many of us about having to stay in our homes, is that we are isolated from our loved ones and our favorite places. Now I know it’s no substitute for the real thing but Homesick Candles may be the next best thing for now.

Whether you're missing your home state, nostalgic for a city where you used to live or even one of your favorite travel destinations this quirking candle company has you covered. They try to highlight the best of each destination, so the Library candle has the sense of old wood and warmth, not the quiet desperation of our college days! These would make great gifts as well to send to our family and friends to let them know we are thinking of them.

Placemats

Red ombre vinyl placemats.

Now that we are all at home- all the time, family meals are probably a lot more common than they used to be. Whether it was kids rushing out to school, or you having to stay late at the office, meals together around the table were probably not as common as you wished for. Well, that has all changed so maybe it’s time to spruce up the table a little be? As you know I am fond of saying that it is the small things that make the big difference, and these vinyl placemats will upgrade your nightly dinner, are easy to clean and a really great value, what’s to lose?

Available in a broad range of colors. I happen to like this deep read ombre but play around a bit, maybe you do two colors and switch it up night to night?

Alexa

A product shot of Philips Hue light bulbs and box.

Looking for a project that won’t break the bank and does not involve paint and power tools? Then this might be just for you. The Philips Hue Lighting system is one of the best and most simple ways to introduce a little tech to your home. Imagine sitting at dinner and telling Alexa to dim the lights, or getting into bed and asking her to shut them down all together, it’s really that simple. I think once you try the starter kit for this Alexa-enabled lighting system you will become addicted to “Alexa, order me one now”.

Rugs

A lambskin rug on top of a tile floor.

If you are anything like me, how well your day is going to go is often determined by what happens in the first few minutes as I get out of bed. So why not stack the cards in your favor and create a luxury moment from the instant you step out of bed? These New Zealand lamb skins are like stepping on to a cloud, and who doesn’t want to feel like an angel from the first thing in the morning? What I really like about skins like this is that you can add them to any style of decor and layer them on wood, carpet or even another rug. Super easy to maintain and a great example of affordable luxury.

Staying at home is hard for us all, so treat yourself to a couple of moments of luxury during your day, it can change your whole outlook and may the sun shine just a little brighter.

Stay Safe!
