5 Ways to Refresh your Home for the Holidays

This year the holidays may not look the same as in years past, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great excuse to give your home a quick refresh to make it feel a bit more special. Try these quick tips to give your home a quick refresh.

1. A Deep Clean

Burnt orange colored wingback chairs frame a large arched window. The chairs are adorned with beaded pillows.

Now that the holidays are here, the weather is getting cooler and we are all spending more time inside (for any number of reasons), it is a great time to book a deep clean. Have the upholstery steamed clean and the rugs and carpets professionally shampooed. It can be an amazing transformation to have that sense of freshness and a great way to start the holidays.

2. Art Rehang

There is an old expression that change is as good as a holiday. Well sometimes change may just BE the holiday, so make some simple changes in your home. Rehanging artwork can be a simple but dramatic way to refresh your home. Move that piece from the Dining Room into the Living room, or create a gallery wall with some of your favorite pieces, Often a new location will make you appreciate art in a whole new way. After all MOMA in New York has just made rotating the collection several times a year part of their official policy, why not yours?

3. Paint a Room

A white comfortable chair with a red pillow sits in front of a bookcase that is painted black with lime green accents. A holiday refresh can be achieved by painting a room.

I know! This one may feel a bit overwhelming, but trust me a fresh color can make the world of difference to a room. If you are not up for a big project ( I am not suggesting that you paint the whole house), try a small room, or if you want more of an afternoon project, maybe now is the time to create a feature wall. Pick one wall that really bothers you and paint it a dramatic color. It is only paint afterall, you can change it back after the holidays if you want, but it might just be the push you need to refresh the whole space.

4. Swap Out The Hardware

Over the holidays, if you are anything like me, you will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen, so don’t ignore that room in your preholiday refresh. Try swapping out the hardware, maybe with something with a little more bling that will give your Kitchen a more festive and bright feel.

5. Change out the throw pillows.

A curved window nook is lined with comfortable sofa seating and throw pillows.

The great thing about pillow covers is that they take almost no space to store, so I like to have a few different sets that I can swap out during the year. During the holidays they have a lot more deeper, fall colors, in the summer, lighter and brighter.

The thing to remember is small changes can make a big difference in your home, so try one or two of these quick refresh ideas and you might be amazed how much of a difference it makes and what a festive atmosphere it can create.
